We are so very impressed with this company. This is the second large tree removal job that we had accomplished with them. They are great to work with very prompt and timely as as well as as professional in their overall approach to the business. The guys that do the work on cutting down, the trees are amazing. The equipment they use is top-notch and really provides them an opportunity to do the work without causing on due damage to your lawn, etc.. We would definitely use them again and would encourage everybody else in the Service area to do so. Can’t say enough good things about them

We had a large tree limb snap and it was dangling precariously by the road in front of our house. When I explained the situation to Sean, he had his crew come out the same day to take care of it. This is my 2nd time using AllScapes for tree services, and both times I've been very impressed with their knowledge of trees and the quality of their work (safety, clean up, etc). I'm especially grateful this time because they quickly addressed a potentially dangerous situation, to help keep my family and my neighbors safe. Thanks AllScapes!

I was worried about an old tree in the back yard that had become diseased and was dropping branches. It hung over the yard and the house. I asked Allscapes if they could take it down and grind the stump before a 4th of July cookout and they were able to make time for us. The guys were careful, methodical, and respectful of property. While there they trimmed some out of control hedges (they look fantastic), pulled out two dying holly bushes and ground another older stump. Oh and trimmed some dead branches from a couple trees near the road. Add a reasonable price and we were very happy with the service. Highly recommend.

A large portion of my mature Maple tree came down in my yard. Further, the remaining portion of the damaged tree also needed to be removed. Compounding the problem, there was not direct vehicle access to the tree. Allscapes Tree Service viewed my difficult situation the same day that I called determining that they could extract the tree over a 6' stockade fence via an access road. Upon receiving RI Energy's permission to use their access road, Allscapes Tree Service arrived the following day removing the downed limb as well as the tree. Start to finish, Allscapes staff and workers were 'extremely ' helpful, professional and courteous. They also did an excellent job of cleaning up my yard as well as the access road. Their attention to detail is excellent and I will definitely call them in the future!!

Professional Tree Transplanting Throughout Rhode Island

A mature tree can take decades to replace. When a valuable tree conflicts with a construction project, landscape redesign, or changing property needs, removing it may not be the only option.

AllScapes provides professional tree transplanting and relocation throughout Rhode Island, including East Greenwich, Exeter, Warwick, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Narragansett, Westerly and Watch Hill, Charlestown, Jamestown, and surrounding communities.

Successful tree transplanting involves much more than digging up a tree and moving it. The tree's species, size, health, root system, soil conditions, access, and destination all influence whether relocation is practical and how the project should be approached. Proper root-zone management, specialized equipment, careful placement, and follow-up care are critical to reducing transplant stress and giving the tree the best opportunity to establish in its new location.

AllScapes has decades of experience relocating established trees and has successfully transplanted hundreds of trees. Depending on the tree and property conditions, our capabilities include specimens up to approximately 30 feet tall.

When the health or viability of a tree is uncertain, we may recommend an evaluation through our Certified Arborist Services before relocation.

When Does Tree Transplanting Make Sense?

Tree transplanting allows property owners to change how a property is used without automatically sacrificing an established tree. It can be particularly valuable when the tree is healthy and desirable but its current location no longer works with the property.

Preserve a Mature Tree

Relocate a healthy, established tree rather than removing a landscape feature that may have taken decades to mature.

Construction and Property Improvements

Move trees that conflict with additions, new construction, driveways, pools, hardscaping, or other improvements when relocation is practical.

Landscape Redesign

Reposition existing trees as part of a larger landscape renovation or a change in how outdoor spaces are used.

Privacy and Screening

Relocate or install established trees where their size can provide more immediate screening and separation.

Correct Poor Placement

Move a tree that has outgrown its original location or is creating conflicts with structures, access, or other landscape features.

Preserve Valuable Landscape Features

Maintain established trees that contribute to the character, shade, or appearance of an estate, commercial property, or residential landscape.

Not every tree is a good candidate for transplanting. Tree health, structural condition, species, size, access, and the proposed destination all need to be considered before relocation begins.

Can Large or Mature Trees Be Transplanted?

Yes, many established trees can be successfully relocated when their condition, species, size, and site conditions make transplanting practical.

AllScapes has successfully transplanted hundreds of trees and can relocate trees up to approximately 30 feet in height, depending on the tree and the conditions of the project.

Larger trees require considerably more planning than smaller plant material. The size and weight of the root ball, access for equipment, soil conditions, travel path, destination, and ability to position the tree correctly all affect the feasibility of the move.

The tree itself must also be a reasonable candidate. A large tree with significant disease, decay, structural instability, or a compromised root system may not be appropriate for relocation.

When viability is uncertain, a Certified Arborist evaluation can help determine whether transplanting, continued care, or another solution is appropriate.

The AllScapes Tree Transplanting Process

1. Tree and Site Evaluation

We evaluate the tree's size, species, condition, current location, surrounding property, and access to determine whether relocation appears practical.

2. New Location Evaluation

The destination is evaluated for available space, access, soil, and other site conditions that can affect placement and establishment.

3. Transplant Planning

The project is planned around the tree, root zone, equipment requirements, movement path, and conditions at both locations.

4. Excavation and Relocation

The tree and an appropriate root ball are carefully excavated and moved using equipment suited to the size of the tree and conditions of the property.

5. Placement and Installation

The tree is positioned in its new location with attention to planting depth, orientation, root-zone conditions, and stability.

6. Follow-Up Care

After transplanting, appropriate watering, monitoring, and tree care can help the tree recover from transplant stress and establish in its new location.

Professional Tree Installation for Immediate Landscape Impact

Tree transplanting is not limited to moving trees that already exist on your property. AllScapes also provides professional tree installation for residential, commercial, and landscape projects throughout Rhode Island.

Installing larger, established trees can create an immediate impact that smaller plantings may take years to provide. Depending on the project, trees can be incorporated to add shade, privacy, screening, structure, or a mature focal point to a new or redesigned landscape.

Proper installation is critical. The tree species and mature size should fit the location, while planting depth, soil conditions, drainage, available space, and surrounding landscape features all need to be considered before installation.

AllScapes can coordinate tree installation as part of a larger property or landscape improvement project, helping ensure that the tree and its location work together for the long term.

The Right Tree Needs the Right Location

Successful tree installation starts before the tree arrives on the property. A tree that looks appropriate today may eventually conflict with buildings, utilities, driveways, hardscapes, or other trees if its mature size and growth characteristics are not considered. Soil conditions, drainage, sunlight, exposure, and available root space can also affect long-term performance.

Before installing or relocating a tree, consider:

  • Mature height and canopy spread: Will the tree have enough room as it grows?
  • Root space: Is there adequate soil volume for the root system to develop?
  • Sun and exposure: Does the location fit the requirements of the species?
  • Drainage and soil conditions: Will the root zone provide appropriate growing conditions?
  • Buildings and hardscapes: Is there enough long-term clearance from homes, driveways, patios, and other structures?
  • Utilities and access: Could the tree eventually interfere with overhead or underground infrastructure?
  • Landscape purpose: Is the goal shade, privacy, screening, visual impact, or preservation of an existing specimen?

For higher-value trees or more complex situations, AllScapes may recommend a Certified Arborist evaluation to help assess tree health and suitability.

Root-Zone Management Is Critical to Successful Transplanting

The root system is one of the most important considerations in any tree transplant.

Moving a tree inevitably disrupts part of its existing root system. The objective is to retain and protect an appropriate root ball, minimize unnecessary damage, and place the tree into conditions that support new root development.

Larger trees require heavier root balls and specialized equipment to excavate, move, and position them safely. Soil conditions, tree size, and access can all affect how the root system is managed during the project.

After relocation, consistent follow-up care is important while the tree establishes new roots and adjusts to its new environment. Because every tree and site is different, transplanting cannot eliminate all establishment risk, but professional planning and care can give the tree the best opportunity to adapt.

Should You Transplant the Tree or Remove It?

When a tree is healthy but located where it conflicts with a construction project or future landscape plan, transplanting may provide an opportunity to preserve it. But relocation is not appropriate for every tree.

Trees with significant disease, decay, structural defects, or poor overall condition may not be good candidates for transplanting. Size, species, root condition, access, and the availability of a suitable new location can also affect whether relocation is practical.

If the best option is unclear, AllScapes can help evaluate the project and may recommend a Certified Arborist assessment before a decision is made.

When a tree cannot reasonably be preserved or relocated, professional Tree Removal may be the safer or more practical option. If the area will then be replanted or redesigned, Stump Grinding and Removal can prepare the space for its next use.

What Affects the Cost of Tree Transplanting?

There is no single price for relocating a tree because every transplanting project is different. The cost can be affected by:

  • Tree size and species
  • Size and weight of the required root ball
  • Tree condition
  • Access to the existing tree
  • Access to the destination
  • Distance the tree must be moved
  • Soil and terrain conditions
  • Equipment required
  • Preparation of the new planting location
  • Site restoration and cleanup
  • Complexity of the overall project

Larger trees and properties with restricted access generally require more planning, equipment, and labor.

AllScapes provides free estimates for tree transplanting and installation so the project can be evaluated based on the actual tree and property conditions.

Tree Transplanting & Installation Throughout Rhode Island

AllScapes provides professional tree transplanting, tree relocation, and tree installation throughout Rhode Island.

From our Exeter location, we serve residential and commercial properties in East Greenwich, Warwick, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Narragansett, Westerly and Watch Hill, Charlestown, Jamestown, and surrounding Rhode Island communities.

Because tree transplanting depends heavily on equipment access, tree size, site conditions, and the destination, every project should be evaluated individually.

If you are considering moving an established tree or installing larger trees as part of a landscape project, contact AllScapes to discuss the property and determine what is practical.

Is Your Tree a Good Candidate for Transplanting?

Tree size alone does not determine whether a tree should be moved. Its health, structure, species, root condition, and ability to tolerate relocation also matter. Moving a tree that is already severely compromised may result in unnecessary cost and additional stress without providing the long-term outcome you are trying to achieve.

For valuable mature trees or situations where viability is uncertain, AllScapes may recommend a tree health assessment through our Certified Arborist Services before transplanting.

The assessment can help identify health or structural concerns and determine whether relocation is a reasonable option before major work begins.

Tree Transplanting & Installation FAQs

Yes. Many mature trees can be relocated when their species, size, health, root condition, and site access make transplanting practical. Each tree and property should be evaluated individually before relocation.

AllScapes can transplant trees up to approximately 30 feet tall, depending on the species, tree size, condition, access, and other site factors.

No. Some trees may be poor candidates because of disease, decay, structural problems, root condition, species, size, or site limitations. An evaluation can help determine whether relocation is practical.

Transplanting can preserve a healthy, established tree when its current location conflicts with construction, landscape changes, or how the property will be used. It may also preserve the shade, screening, appearance, or character provided by a mature tree.

Yes. AllScapes provides tree installation as well as relocation. The appropriate tree size depends on the species, property access, planting location, and conditions of the project.

The process generally includes evaluating the tree and destination, planning for access and equipment, excavating an appropriate root ball, relocating the tree, installing it at the new location, and providing appropriate follow-up care.

Establishment time varies based on tree size, species, root system, season, site conditions, and follow-up care. Larger transplanted trees can require an extended period to develop new roots and fully adjust to their new location.

Yes. Follow-up watering, monitoring, and appropriate tree care are important after relocation because the tree's root system has been disturbed and needs time to establish in the new location.

For mature, valuable, or questionable trees, an arborist evaluation can be useful before relocation. Tree health and structural condition can affect whether transplanting is appropriate.

If disease, structural condition, access, or other factors make relocation impractical, AllScapes can discuss other options, including Tree Trimming where appropriate or professional Tree Removal when preservation is not feasible.
