The equipment they use is top-notch and really provides them an opportunity to do the work without causing on due damage to your lawn, etc.. We would definitely use them again and would encourage everybody else in the Service area to do so. Can’t say enough good things about them

We had a large tree limb snap and it was dangling precariously by the road in front of our house. When I explained the situation to Sean, he had his crew come out the same day to take care of it. This is my 2nd time using AllScapes for tree services, and both times I've been very impressed with their knowledge of trees and the quality of their work (safety, clean up, etc). I'm especially grateful this time because they quickly addressed a potentially dangerous situation, to help keep my family and my neighbors safe. Thanks AllScapes!

I was worried about an old tree in the back yard that had become diseased and was dropping branches. It hung over the yard and the house. I asked Allscapes if they could take it down and grind the stump before a 4th of July cookout and they were able to make time for us. The guys were careful, methodical, and respectful of property. While there they trimmed some out of control hedges (they look fantastic), pulled out two dying holly bushes and ground another older stump. Oh and trimmed some dead branches from a couple trees near the road. Add a reasonable price and we were very happy with the service. Highly recommend.

A large portion of my mature Maple tree came down in my yard. Further, the remaining portion of the damaged tree also needed to be removed. Compounding the problem, there was not direct vehicle access to the tree. Allscapes Tree Service viewed my difficult situation the same day that I called determining that they could extract the tree over a 6' stockade fence via an access road. Upon receiving RI Energy's permission to use their access road, Allscapes Tree Service arrived the following day removing the downed limb as well as the tree. Start to finish, Allscapes staff and workers were 'extremely ' helpful, professional and courteous. They also did an excellent job of cleaning up my yard as well as the access road. Their attention to detail is excellent and I will definitely call them in the future!!

Professional Tree Health Assessments in Rhode Island

Trees often show signs of trouble before a serious failure occurs. Changes in leaf color, thinning foliage, dead branches, unusual growth, insect activity, decay, cracks, or changes around the root system can indicate problems that deserve a closer look.

AllScapes provides Certified Arborist Services and professional tree health assessments throughout Rhode Island, including East Greenwich, Exeter, Warwick, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Narragansett, Westerly and Watch Hill, Charlestown, Jamestown, and surrounding communities.

Our arborist evaluates the tree itself as well as the conditions around it. That can include overall health and vigor, structural stability, visible defects, disease symptoms, insect activity, previous damage, and growing conditions that may be contributing to decline.

The objective is not automatically to remove a tree that looks unhealthy. It is to understand what is happening and determine the appropriate course of action.

Depending on the findings, that may include monitoring the tree, treating a pest or disease problem, improving tree care, performing selective Tree Trimming and Pruning, or recommending Tree Removal when the condition of the tree makes preservation impractical or unsafe.

For mature or valuable trees, an informed assessment can help property owners avoid making an irreversible decision before understanding the available options.

What Does a Certified Arborist Look For?

A tree's condition cannot always be determined from a single symptom. Similar signs can have very different causes, which is why a professional assessment looks at the tree as a whole rather than focusing only on one damaged branch or discolored leaf.

Tree Health and Vigor

Evaluate foliage, canopy density, branch condition, growth patterns, and other visible indicators of overall tree health.

Structural Condition

Look for cracks, weak or damaged limbs, trunk defects, decay, abnormal leaning, and other conditions that may affect structural stability.

Disease Symptoms

Evaluate visible symptoms that may indicate fungal, bacterial, or other tree-health problems.

Insect Activity

Look for signs of insect infestation or damage that may be affecting foliage, bark, branches, trunk, or overall tree health.

Root and Growing Conditions

Consider visible root problems and surrounding conditions that may be contributing to tree stress or decline.

Storm and Physical Damage

Evaluate trees affected by wind, storms, broken limbs, or other physical damage to determine the extent of the problem and appropriate next steps.

Previous Tree Work

Past pruning, damage, or other changes to the tree can influence its current structure and health and may need to be considered during the assessment.

Overall Risk and Next Steps

Combine the findings to determine whether the tree should be monitored, treated, pruned, preserved, or removed.

Signs Your Tree May Need an Arborist Evaluation

Some tree problems are obvious. Others develop gradually and become noticeable only after the tree has been under stress for some time. Consider scheduling a tree health assessment when you notice:

  • Dead or dying branches
  • Thinning canopy or unexpected leaf loss
  • Discolored, spotted, or damaged leaves
  • Unusual growths or fungal activity
  • Visible decay or cavities
  • Cracks or splits in the trunk or major limbs
  • Peeling or damaged bark
  • Insect activity or unusual holes in the trunk
  • Branch dieback
  • Changes around exposed roots
  • A tree beginning to lean or changing position
  • Storm damage
  • Decline that does not have an obvious cause
  • Multiple trees showing similar symptoms
  • A mature or valuable tree you are concerned about

A visible symptom does not necessarily reveal the underlying cause. Tree stress, insects, disease, physical damage, and growing conditions can produce overlapping symptoms.

The purpose of the assessment is to identify what appears to be happening before deciding what work—if any—should be performed.

Tree Disease and Pest Management

When an assessment identifies disease or insect activity affecting a tree, the appropriate response depends on the tree, the problem, and the severity of the condition.

AllScapes provides tree-health services that may include spraying, injection, and selective pruning to help manage certain pest and disease problems when those methods are appropriate for the tree.

Treatment should follow diagnosis. Applying a treatment without understanding the underlying problem may fail to address what is actually causing the tree to decline. An arborist assessment helps determine what symptoms are present, what may be contributing to them, and what course of action makes sense.

In some cases, the recommendation may involve treatment. In others, selective pruning, monitoring, or changes in tree care may be more appropriate.

If disease, decay, or structural problems have progressed to the point that a tree cannot reasonably be preserved, Tree Removal may ultimately be recommended.

The AllScapes Tree Health Assessment Process

1. Tell Us What You Are Seeing

Contact AllScapes and explain what concerns you about the tree, including any visible changes, damage, or symptoms you have noticed.

2. On-Site Tree Evaluation

Our arborist evaluates the tree and surrounding conditions, looking at overall health, structure, disease symptoms, insect activity, and other visible factors that may be contributing to the problem.

3. Identify the Problem

We evaluate the findings to determine what appears to be affecting the tree and whether the primary concern involves health, pests, disease, structure, physical damage, or growing conditions.

4. Recommend the Appropriate Action

Based on the assessment, we explain the available options and recommend an appropriate course of action.

5. Tree Care or Treatment

When appropriate, the next step may involve treatment, selective pruning, other tree care, or continued monitoring.

6. Removal When Preservation Is Not Practical

When a tree is severely compromised or presents a condition that cannot reasonably be corrected, professional tree removal may be recommended.

The goal is to make the decision after evaluating the tree, rather than choosing trimming, treatment, or removal based only on how the tree looks from a distance.

Can a Sick or Damaged Tree Be Saved?

Sometimes.

Whether a declining tree can be preserved depends on what is causing the problem, how far the condition has progressed, the tree's overall health and structure, and whether the underlying issue can reasonably be managed.

A tree showing leaf damage or dead branches is not automatically a candidate for removal. Treatment, selective pruning, or continued monitoring may sometimes be appropriate.

Likewise, keeping every tree is not always the correct decision. Advanced decay, serious structural problems, or significant decline can change the balance between preservation and property safety. That is why diagnosis comes first.

An arborist assessment provides the information needed to determine whether preservation is reasonable and what tree-care measures may help. When there is a practical way to preserve a tree, AllScapes can recommend the appropriate next steps. When there is not, we will explain why another course of action may make more sense.

Assess → Preserve When Practical → Remove When Necessary

A Healthy-Looking Tree Can Still Have Structural Problems

Tree health and tree safety are related, but they are not exactly the same question.

A tree may have green foliage while also having structural concerns such as damaged limbs, cracks, decay, or storm-related defects. Conversely, a tree may look stressed or have damaged foliage without necessarily presenting an immediate structural concern.

That is why an arborist evaluation considers both tree health and structural condition.

For trees near homes, driveways, outdoor living areas, commercial buildings, or other frequently used parts of a property, understanding both factors can be particularly important.

If the primary concern involves damaged or overextended branches, professional Tree Trimming and Pruning may be recommended. If the tree's condition makes preservation impractical, AllScapes can also provide professional Tree Removal.

Does the Tree Really Need to Come Down?

Not every problem tree needs to be removed.

If a mature tree appears unhealthy, has damaged branches, or has become a concern because of its location, an arborist evaluation can help determine whether removal is actually necessary.

Depending on the condition of the tree, alternatives may include selective pruning, treatment, or monitoring. This can be particularly valuable for mature trees that contribute significant shade, privacy, landscape character, or value to a property.

When removal is the appropriate option, the assessment can also help explain the condition that led to that recommendation.

AllScapes provides both professional arborist evaluations and Tree Removal Services, allowing the decision about the tree to be based on its condition rather than automatically beginning with removal.

Evaluate Valuable Trees Before Relocation

Moving a mature tree creates significant stress on the tree and its root system, so its health and condition should be considered before a major transplanting project.

If the viability of a mature or valuable tree is uncertain, an arborist evaluation can help identify health, structural, or pest concerns that may affect whether relocation is a reasonable investment.

When a tree is an appropriate candidate, AllScapes also provides professional Tree Transplanting and Installation, including relocation of established trees where tree size, species, access, and site conditions allow.

Tree Health Concerns Throughout Rhode Island

Rhode Island trees grow in a wide range of property conditions—from established inland landscapes to densely developed neighborhoods and exposed coastal properties.

Storms, wind, physical damage, changing site conditions, insects, disease, and other environmental stresses can affect trees differently depending on the property and tree.

AllScapes provides Certified Arborist Services throughout Rhode Island, with particular focus on East Greenwich, Exeter, Warwick, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Narragansett, Westerly and Watch Hill, Charlestown, Jamestown, and surrounding communities.

For property owners, the important question is rarely just whether a tree looks bad. The question is why the tree is changing and what should be done about it.

A professional tree health assessment can help separate cosmetic or manageable problems from conditions that require treatment, pruning, monitoring, or removal.

What Affects the Cost of Certified Arborist Services?

The scope of an arborist visit can vary depending on the tree, property, and reason for the assessment. Factors that may affect the scope and cost include:

  • Number of trees being evaluated
  • Tree size
  • Tree location and accessibility
  • Complexity of the symptoms
  • Visible disease or insect activity
  • Structural concerns
  • Storm or physical damage
  • Whether treatment or additional tree work is recommended
  • Overall property conditions

If treatment, pruning, or removal is recommended after the assessment, the cost of that work will depend on the service required and conditions of the property.

Contact AllScapes to discuss what you are seeing and schedule the appropriate tree-health evaluation. Arborist assessments are not represented here as free because the appropriate scope must first be determined.

From Diagnosis to the Right Tree Service

An arborist assessment is useful because it helps determine what should happen next. Depending on the findings, the recommendation may include:

Monitoring

Some conditions may warrant observation rather than immediate work.

Pest or Disease Treatment

When appropriate, treatment may include methods such as spraying or injection based on the tree and identified problem.

Selective Pruning

Removing dead, damaged, or problematic branches may help address certain health or structural concerns.

Tree Care Recommendations

Changes in how the tree or surrounding area is managed may be appropriate depending on the conditions identified.

Tree Transplanting

For certain healthy trees affected by future property plans, relocation may be worth evaluating.

Tree Removal

When a tree is severely compromised or cannot reasonably be preserved, removal may be the appropriate recommendation.

The important distinction is that the service recommendation follows the assessment rather than preceding it.

Certified Arborist and Tree Health FAQs

A Certified Arborist evaluates tree health and condition to help identify problems and recommend appropriate tree care. An assessment may consider tree health, structural stability, disease symptoms, insect activity, damage, and surrounding growing conditions.

Consider an arborist evaluation when a tree shows unexplained decline, dead branches, unusual leaf loss, discoloration, insect activity, decay, cracks, storm damage, changes in lean, or other signs that raise concerns about its health or condition.

An arborist assessment can help determine whether a tree can reasonably be preserved or whether its health or structural condition makes removal the more appropriate option.

Sometimes. Whether a tree can be preserved depends on the cause and severity of the problem, the tree's overall health and structure, and whether the underlying condition can reasonably be treated or managed.

No. Depending on the problem, treatment, selective pruning, monitoring, or other tree care may be appropriate. Removal is generally considered when the tree's condition makes preservation impractical or creates an unacceptable concern.

Possible signs include unusual leaf discoloration, spots, premature leaf loss, canopy thinning, branch dieback, abnormal growth, bark changes, decay, or other unexplained changes. Similar symptoms can have different causes, so an evaluation can help determine what is happening.

Insect activity can affect tree health, although the severity and appropriate response depend on the insect, tree, and extent of the problem. AllScapes evaluates signs of insect activity as part of tree-health assessments.

AllScapes provides pest and disease management that may include spraying, injection, and selective pruning when those approaches are appropriate for the identified problem.

In some situations, selective pruning may be recommended to remove dead, damaged, or problematic branches. Whether pruning is appropriate depends on the condition of the tree and the underlying problem.

If the reason for removal is uncertain, an arborist assessment can help determine whether the tree can reasonably be preserved through treatment, pruning, or monitoring before an irreversible decision is made.

For mature or valuable trees, an evaluation can help identify health or structural problems that may affect whether relocation is appropriate.

Potentially. Foliage and appearance are only part of the assessment. Structural defects, decay, storm damage, or other problems may exist even when a tree still has green foliage.

Yes. AllScapes provides Certified Arborist Services and tree-health assessments for residential and commercial properties throughout Rhode Island.
